About Craig Baldwin
A radical hybrid of spy, sci-fi, Western, and even horror genres, San Franisco-based Craig Baldwin's Mock Up On Mu cobbles together a feature-length "collage-narrative" based on (mostly) true stories of California's post-War sub-cultures of rocket pioneers, alternative religions, and Beat lifestyles. Pulp-serial snippets, industrial-film imagery, and B- (and Z-) fiction clips are intercut with newly shot live-action material.
Reviews:
From the New York Times review Trippy Sci-Fi Mash-Up Alert!:
"The movie charms as much as it confounds, as it hovers in the twilight zone between real life and the imaginary world, between history and its interpolations, between what you know and what you wish you believed."
From Variety:
"Latest unclassifiable, near-indescribable effort by San Francisco-based "culture jammer" Craig Baldwin, "Mock Up on Mu" is a typically dense yet delightful combination of found and new footage in the service of a fanciful semi-fact-based narrative... Those loyal to pop-culture-savvy experimentalism should find the gambit has considerable rewards. As with Baldwin's pioneering pastiche "Tribulation 99" and more conventional anarchist-media docu "Sonic Outlaws," pre-DVD exposure will flow toward fest, cinematheque, rep house, gallery and club exhibition."

RE:PLAY EXHIBIT
Loudoun House
209 Castlewood Drive
Lexington Ky 40505
September 23 through October 16, 2011
At the Lexington Art League's north side location in historic Loudoun House, the projected video light swims on the gothic architecture with 20 films by 18 local and national contemporary video artists in Re:Play, an exhibition curated by Lexington Film League.
Using found media as source material, many of the artists are working in the genre traditionally known as collage film. Over the last decade, technology such as media extraction and programming, and platforms like YouTube, have amplified the material for this conversation, adding to nearly a century of experimental filmmaking which solidified found footage as both a self-expressive and sociopolitical genre.
Re:Play opens during a Fifth Third Bank 4th Friday on September 23 and runs through October 16. A discussion on appropriation and technique with Lexington Film League and several exhibiting artists is scheduled for October 1. Also Mock Up on Mu, a collage film using a hybrid of spy, sci-fi, Western and even horror genres by California-based artist Craig Baldwin, is set to screen on October 13 in the Loudoun House courtyard.
Participating artists: Craig Baldwin - San Francisco, Ca; Christina Battle - Denver, Co; Robert Beatty - Lexington, Ky; Matt Bonner - New York, Ny; Bryan Boyce - San Francisco, Ca; Peter Burr - Brooklyn, Ny; Christopher Doulgeris - Los Angeles, Ca; Jun Jalbuena - San Francisco, Ca; Cassandra C.
